Interfaith Weeks
Learning about different faiths and cultures is at the heart of our RE curriculum. However, each year we celebrate different faiths in an additional, unique way in our Interfaith Week where we ensure a different focus to engage and motivate children in their learning.
In 2021 - 22, our learning centred around 'Weddings from Around the World'.
This helped our children gain an insight into how and why different cultures and faiths hold different traditions and beliefs as they celebrate the marriage of two people. The children enjoyed lots of fun activities such as making food for the traditional English wedding breakfast.
Some children also made 'favour boxes' and once beautifully decorated, filled them with sweets. Others designed wedding invitations and outfits from around the world and also explored Henna and Mehendi patterns. There was also a special cake made to demonstrate the Peruvian tradition where charms attached to ribbons are tucked between the layers of the wedding cake. Before the cake is cut, each woman grabs a ribbon and pulls. At the end of one ribbon is a fake wedding ring. The guest who picks that ribbon is said to be next in line for marriage!
2022 - 23 'Welcome to the World'
This year in May 2023, our children will be celebrating different faiths once again with a focus on 'Welcome to the World'. We will be learning about how different faiths and cultures celebrate the birth of a new baby.
We are looking forward to finding out more and sharing our learning with you in the coming months!
