Working with Quarry Bank Mill
Styal Primary School has very close links with Quarry Bank Mill.
This brilliant resource supports us with our learning in many areas such as Science and pond-dipping, History and the Victorians and Geography and ourlocal area including the River Bollin.
QBM Experts Supporting Learning in School
QBM support learning at Styal in many ways. In 2023, for our school's 200 Year Anniversary, the whole school took part in a Victorian Day. The whole school dressed in Victorian costume and spent the day at Quarry bank Mill learning about how life was for society back in time. We went back in time when the mill was thriving and the apprentices lived at the Apprentice House.
We also have access to QBM's archives and school records which help us find out about the past using oral history and artefcats.
We have taken part in an archaelogical dig in the grounds. working in conjunction with Liverpool University and QBM. Year 5 and 6 children creatied landscape designs with Brenda Colvin - a great garden design project.
Every 2 years, Year 3 and 4 go back in time to the Mill and spend the day as an apprentice.
Year 1 and 2 took part in an Education Through Time Workshop. They got to see how education has changed from slates and charcoal to whiteboards and pens.
